Nikolai Tsiskaridze has been appointed as rector, and Uliana Lopatkina as Artistic Director, of the world-famous Vaganova Ballet Academy, in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Vaganova Ballet Academy has been in the spotlight of late with the Maryinsky’s Artistic Director clashing with Tsiskaridze’s predecessor, Vera Dorofeeva, questioning the preparation of their dancers.

It has been announced that Canadian-born dancer, Matthew Golding, currently principal with Dutch National Ballet will transfer to the Royal Ballet in February 2014, and will partner Natalia Osipova (also a newcomer to the Royal Ballet earlier this Autumn) in Sleeping Beauty.

Choreographer Hofesh Shechter will be guest directing at Brighton Festival 2014, which hosts a wide variety of entertainment including music, theatre, art, film and circus, to name but a few.
English National Ballet have announced that Caroline Thomson (a former BBC executive), will become their executive director, and that Farooq Chaudry (producer and co-founder of Akram Khan Company) will be joining as producer.
The BBC’s new Director-General, Tony Hall, ex-Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House, has promised an increase in arts coverage across BBC TV and Radio, and a new arts brand called “BBC Arts at…”.

Carlos Acosta’s debut novel ‘Pig’s Foot’ published by Bloomsbury, was released on 30th November. Waterstones selected it as one of their top ten most important literary debuts of the year.
